THE LENSMAN - THE PHOTOGRAPHER BEHIND CASCADE
Tim McKenna is the man behind the lens and about
the only photographer in the world who can convey the magic of being inside a wave
on a sheet of paper. Mckenna is an old friend of Cascade and Chris O'Callaghan.
Living in Tahiti and making his living from shooting film, Tim has graciously donated
most of the shots you see in this site.
McKenna www.tim-mckenna.com
has worked with such champions as Andy Irons, Jean-Michel Bayle, Patrick Edlinger,
Laird Hamilton, Jason Polakow or Karl Heinz Zangerl in sports ranging from
surfing, snowboarding, windsurfing, motocross to rockclimbing. His travels have
taken him to over 30 countries from the 5985 metres high Cotopaxi Volcano in Ecuador
to the 20' waves of Teahupoo in Tahiti and the -30°C of Mongolia.
His first visit to French Polynesia in 1986 resulted in love at first sight. The
luxuriant beauty of the landscape, the richness of the culture combined with perfect
waves all year round made him finally decide to settle there. Although now based
on the island of Tahiti with his family, he still tours the world but has also assigned
himself the task of capturing the magic of Polynesian life.
In
just over 20 years he has become recognised as one of the best outdoor photographers
in the world. Not only do his action shots make the covers of the leading surf,
snowboard, windsurf or motocross magazines, his landscape and fashion shots also
appear in numerous ads, posters and billboards around the globe. He has contributed
to over ten books distributed worldwide and enhanced more than twenty websites with
his pictures.
Tim is lucky to be able to fulfil every graphic artist’s dream: to produce a large
variety of beautiful and powerful images
which speak for themselves. So much so that his portfolio is being published in fine art poster editions and in a book
collection.
Surfcascade.com and its guests are also lucky to enjoy Tim's work... pay him a visit
at his site and spread him a good word to anyone you know.
